Are You Eating A Good Breakfast For Losing Weight?

It's well said that you should eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. And research carried out by the American Dietetic Association says that by eating a good breakfast you can help with your slimming efforts.

The problem is that so many people are stuck in the belief that skipping breakfast is a good idea. In fact, a lot of people think that starving themselves in general is the only way to lose weight.



But by being like this you're not helping at all.

As far back as 1994 it was found that most of the kids who skip breakfast double their chances of becoming fat adults when compared to kids who eat a good breakfast every day.

So instead of worrying about how to cut your appetite to virtually nil, why not give a hearty breakfast a go. There are plenty of other benefits too.

1. Increase your energy levels - when you eat a good breakfast it means you're less likely to need a snack when you get to work. Basically it allows your blood sugar levels to become more level. After all, breakfast literally means "break fast" - in other words at night you're not eating anything (fasting) and so in the morning you need to eat something.

2. Lower you bad cholesterol levels - it's been discovered by the University of Nottingham that if you skip breakfast you're cholesterol levels will increase. This is because you end up eating poor quality foods full of fat (eg chocolate and crisps). However if you take the time to eat a quality breakfast which include foods such as fresh fruit and wholegrain cereals you won't be tempted by these fatty foods during the day.

3. You'll function better at work - by eating a wholesome breakfast you'll have the energy to get straight into work. And you won't have those blood sugar ups and downs which can affect your metal function.

So if you thought it was a good idea to skip breakfast - think again. Not only will you enjoy the above benefits, you'll also lose weight. A study by the National Weight Control Registry found that 80% of people who were able to lose at least 30 lbs actually made sure they ate a breakfast.

That being said, please don't assume you can eat whatever you wish for breakfast. There's no point in pigging out on fried foods such as bacon and sausages. Instead you ought to look at healthier alternatives such as low fat cottage cheese, natural yoghurt, fresh fruit and wholemeal toast.
