The best way to diet to lose weight is to keep your diet simple to follow and without a lot of specialty foods. By keeping a simple plan you will feel more confident eating in different situations whether at work, at a party with lots of distractions or at home. 1. Divide your plate at meal time. The easiest way to keep your eating on track without having to bother with counting calories or measuring foods is to divide your plate. Simply fill 1/2 of your plate with veggies or salad, 1/4 with a whole grain carbohydrate and 1/4 with a protein.



2. Choose protein snacks over carb snacks. When possible have a protein snack such as a cheese stick or a handful of nuts over a carb snack such as something packaged from the vending machine. Carbohydrates cause your insulin levels to rise and this makes it easier for your body to make new fat and harder for it to burn old stored fat.

3. Stay hydrated. When your body is low on water your metabolism slows down making it harder to burn calories and fat. Stay hydrated with plenty of water or decaffeinated tea or coffee.

4. Eat with your body's natural energy needs. Your body looks at carbohydrates as a quick and easy energy source so these foods should be eaten when your body needs energy such as early in the day and after physical activity. If you eat carbohydrates later in the day when your body does not need as much energy then you run the risk of having them converted to body fat, so it is a good practice to limit carbs in the evening hours.
