Eating Fruit to Lose Weight

Although fruits are a tasty alternative to other sugary treats, they actually contain a higher level of energy and sugars than vegetables. When this energy and sugar (albeit a natural sugar) is not spent through activity and exercise, it gets transformed into fatty mass by the body. Essentially, this is counter productive when it comes weight loss and would lead many to avoid fruit altogether and settle for less-tasty vegetables instead.

However, virtually every fruit contains a fair fiber value that can actually help expel that energy and the sugars from the body. So the problem is not the fruit itself, it is how most people eat fruit, which is as an "added" snack throughout the day.



Since snacking is considered anti-weight loss in the first place, it becomes important for dieters who want to lose weight to incorporate their fruit-eating trends into an actual meal by replacing other carbs. To elaborate, consider that most dieters realize that in order to keep their metabolism system going will split their three main meals into five or six smaller meals. These smaller meals are then consumed throughout the day, at least two to three hours apart.

To ensure a properly balanced meal, dieters will incorporate a protein component to enhance their lean muscle mass and a carbohydrate to provide energy between these meals. Instead of traditional carbohydrates, dieters should consider fruit. Replacing traditional carbs with fruit will result in better, more natural energy and sugars being introduced into the body. As well, fruit will normally have a greater (and more natural) fiber content than traditional carbs like breads, pastas and rice. Another benefit to replacing traditional carbs with fruit is that the sugary-like taste that fruits have allow dieters to satisfy another need that often leads them to trouble throughout their diet process - that sweet tooth need.

Although an apple, orange, grapes, etc. cannot compare to the ecstatic rush that chocolate provides, many fruits will at least temporarily satisfy the body's natural "craving" for high-sugar foods.

In summary, rather than ignoring fruits and dismissing them as high energy and high sugar treats, dieters who want to lose weight in a healthy manner should actually use fruit as a replacement for traditional carbs. While the benefits of eliminating carbs are well-known, using natural foods like fruit instead of traditional carbs satisfies a host of other needs as well.
