Two Healthy Smoothie Recipes Using the Mango and a Look at Why Some Call it a "Super Fruit"

Mangoes are indigenous to India but are now happily grown in tropical regions around the world. The mango fruit is one of the most extensively used food fruits in the world. The Mango trees themselves are very often huge with some towering almost 130 feet into the air with a crown fully 30 feet across. As well as being very big, these trees are very long lived with some recorded specimins now over 300 years old and still bearing fruit.

The mangoes are a delicious sweet smelling fruit that has over 1,000 varieties, with skin colors that range from a light yellow to deep red colors and the flavor is just as varied. Each variety is a bit different from taste to texture-but they all are delicious and rich with so many nutrients it is often called a "super fruit," which is a term coined on edible fruits that feature so many health values. The mango takes between three and six months to fully ripen.

Not only is this a fruit that is delicious, but one that can also help you control your weight. You can find mangos added to salads, served as a shell for ice cream, or even made into chutney. And, mangos, if mixed with yogurt, milk and other fruits and vegetables make delicious fruit smoothies to enjoy for breakfast, lunch, a mid-morning snack or evening desert.
