Does Water Promote Weight Loss?

There has always been the old adage in dieting, that drinking water helps promote weight loss, however is all of this true? Well just recently studies conducted are indicating that yes, water does help promote weight loss- and in many ways. Water has also been referred to as "the essence" of life, and well this is quite true since we need water for the body to function and to live period. To explain further why and how water promotes weight loss, here are some big reasons:

  • When you drink water before a meal, it makes your stomach feel full. Candidates that were tested in these studies held by the University of Virginia proved that when they drank 2 full glasses of water before consuming a meal- that they ate 90-150 fewer calories than they normally would without drinking water.

  • Water removes the toxins from the body, thus allowing your body to flush out salts and things that can cause water and weight retention. Drinking water in fact, can prevent weight gain and retention by almost 1-2 lbs and more in people who tend to swell.

  • When someone drinks water as opposed to high calorie beverages such as juice, sodas, and other beverages with large amounts of sugars- they spare themselves the calories that would normally accrue. These calories can create a deficit that promotes weight reduction from 2-3 lbs a week alone.

  • Water flushes the digestive system. It can help reduce the amount of fats and debris that is trapped within the body. This natural type of flushing is sometimes used in colon cleanses and results in weight loss from fecal matter and other wastes that can accumulate and cause bloating and excess body weight. This can instigate a weight loss by a 3 lb reduction in a single day.

It has all been said, and everyone knows that they must consume a certain amount of water per day to sustain life, however now with this added perk of water- perhaps more people will avoid the liquid beverages that cause weight gain, prevent weight loss, and defeat diets.
