The Detox Diet - Are The Health Benefits A Myth or Truth?

By Jonas Varig

Most of the public are likely aware of detox diets if they have desired to lose weight. This is because you can frequently lose excess weight afterward. But the original intent was to cleanse the body of harmful toxins that we take-in each day. The body is equipped with an inbred machine that rids itself of germs already. So the detox diet is really more of a support or boost to help your body do what it naturally does. As with any diet, you should consult your family physician before you begin any stringent diet. Currently, we are presenting some thoughts on this type of dieting.

There are two basic approaches with many types of detox diets. First, the diet calls for avoiding foods that are known to introduce toxins in your body. Naturally, that is probably something every person should do, anyway. Secondly, the particular diet will recommend you eat foods, or drink liquids, that support the body's ability to process and eliminate toxins. There is a fairly large variety of detox diets, and frequently they also require that your intake of calories is reduced, as well. You will find some that have you eat much smaller portions or even go on liquid fasting such as with juices, only.

While the detox diet can be dangerous if you have particular medical conditions, it can also be very beneficial if used properly. If you have conditions like intestinal problems, diabetes, heart disease, etc. you should not try the detox diet. The detox diet is a highly restrictive one, which is the main complaint of most doctors. Following a very restrictive diet is how the detox approach usually works. There are warnings of possible negative side effects for teenagers and younger children.

There are far too many detox diets to discuss, here, and many of them have origins from around the world. Many detox plans originated in India and follow the Ayurvedic system of treating the body. Panchakarma - "five actions" in sanskrit - is one method. It was developed for the use of royalty to promote longevity and improve health. There are five steps involved with the primary function acting as a purifying therapy. The entire body is treated using certain foods and Ayurvedic herbs to address the metabolism and eliminate wastes and toxins.

Sickness in the stomach, feebleness and nausea are some known examples. A more specialized establishment is what some choose to go to when they are going through the detox process because of the weird symptoms. As you can imagine, people with existing medical conditions should consult their physician even for something such as a short fast. The good that comes from a correct diet detox that has a good and safe recovery period are in existence. Carelessness would only be putting a person in danger as you can see. If you are interested to explore detox diets, then we strongly recommend you do your research well. Get information from credible sources as much as possible and know exactly what you are doing. The most important consideration is that you use it safely and without adverse side effects.
