7 Super Foods for Quick Weight Loss

Besides the pills and potions that promise to provide quick weight loss are there any healthy foods that can speed up the diet process? How about a list of super DIET foods? Is there any such list?

You don't have to look far to find a super food list. In fact there are several similar lists easily found on the web.



One such list was composed by Dr. Wayne Pickering, my co-host on Health at Last Radio. His list includes: Goji Berries, Dried Prunes, Pumpkin Seeds, Cabbage, Beats, Swiss Chard, Spinach, Tomatoes, Blueberries, Carrots, and Walnuts.

I am confident that you can't go wrong with the above list of super foods whether dieting or not. But to go a step further I was pleased to find some super diet foods that help us to shed pounds more quickly and easily. Moreover, we also need readily available foods that help us to stick to our diets.

When we diet it is important for us to keep fatty and unhealthy foods out of our homes altogether. It is also important to always keep a good supply of super diet foods on hand.

1) Water- This first super diet food is a no-brainer but unfortunately we often ignore it. Drinking plenty of water through the day helps you to maintain a feeling of fullness resulting in you eating less. Water also flushes your body of toxins and helps keep you regular. Constipation is a frequent problem among dieters and water can actually minimize that problem.

Avoid diet drinks, especially carbonated beverages. Diet beverages are just as bad as or even worse than sugary soft drinks. At first, drinking water is boring and uninteresting. But it doesn't take long for it to become refreshing and enjoyable. Breaking the soda habit is not easy but the health and weight loss benefits are enormous.

2) Beans- Beans provide both fiber and protein for your diet. Research has shown that protein can speed up the weight loss process. Protein from beans results in fewer calories and no fat.

3) Soup- Researchers found that a serving of a broth or tomato based soup prior to a meal resulted in the consumption of fewer calories. Additionally, there is nothing like homemade vegetable soup as both a tasty meal and comfort food.

4) High fiber whole grain cereal- The obvious application here is at breakfast but I have also found that this healthy type of cereal makes for a delicious mid-afternoon or evening snack (at least 2 hours before bedtime). Try it with almond milk which is now sold in most grocery stores. For sweetener use stevia which you will find in liquid or powder form in your health food store.

5) Green tea- Studies have shown that green tea has properties that promote weight loss. By drinking a cup of hot or a large glass of cold green tea each day weight will come off more rapidly.

6) Yogurt- Just make certain that you make it light and low on sugar content. Research indicates that eating 6 ounces of yogurt 3 times per day helps the pounds come off more rapidly. Yogurt also helps suppress hunger causing you to eat less.

7) Fruit- Keep fruit readily available. When those "must eat something" hunger attacks occur reach for a serving of fruit. Fruit provides flavor, fiber, and healthy nutrients. Oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, tangelos, bananas, pineapple, apples, peaches, etc. are excellent options.

Always have healthy food that fits your diet plan on hand. We are at our most vulnerable when we are hungry and there is nothing quick and satisfying to eat. Those weak moments lead to binges and a run for fast food or junk food.

Keep delicious food on hand. One of the reasons I am so fond of vegetable soup for dieting is that you can make a lot at once. When you need a quick meal it's there.

Fruit, whole grain cereal, yogurt, salad, and cereal all make up quick ways to keep us headed in the right direction. Instead of blowing your diet reach for one of those healthy choices and spare yourself the guilt.

In fact, anything that is healthy, low in calories and fat, easily prepared, and quickly accessible is a super food. Super diet foods speed up weight loss and help you to hang in there in your moments of weakness.

You probably have some super diet foods that you could add to the list. The bigger the list the greater your chance of diet survival.
